RULEBOOK CAMSO V8 – 2007

After the complete rebuilt, in the winter of 2001, of the Warneton short oval to the only quarter-mile speedway with high banking in Europe , Camso started with a complete new formula: CAMSO V8.

The goal was to race with powerful, fast, affordable and reliable cars.

The future success of the formula will essentially depend of the capability of the promotor to keep the formula as cheap as possible and racing as keen as possible.

All the technical points described in this rulebook concerns essentially the “real” Camso V8. Other look a like cars can also compete after receiving the authorisation of Camso.

The general rules of Camso have also application for the Camso V8 formula, as long as there is no special mention in this rulebook.

The points in bolt, italic and underlined are new for 2007.

-          The Camso V8 do not race on a wet track. 2007 is the last season that the F15, cut to raintire may be used, but ONLY on the left front wheel.

-          Maximum 12 slick tires may be used during the 2007 season. The tires have to be stamped by Camso before the first use. If a driver has a blown tire during a race, he has to drive immediately from the track to the pit lane and show the tire to the scrutineer. Only in that case, he can obtain a supplementary new tire, if the tire was gone less than 50%.

-          Stagger is allowed

-          After each race 2 cars (the winner and one on random), the shore number will be controlled at the start line. The one on random will be called by radio.

-          All the tires (except the F 15 rain tires), must have at all moments (before, during – by a yellow flag situation – or after the race) a minimum shore number of 35. If a tire has a shore number less than 35, a hole will be drilled in the side of the tire; in that case, the driver cannot have a new tire.

-          Wheels must not exceed 10” width and must have 5” backset. No wheel spacers permitted.

12° WEIGHT:

The minimal weight must be 925kg; the maximum weight 1050kg.

The weight will be measured AFTER the race. No fluid or weight may be added before weighting the car.

13° SECURITY MEASURES:

-          A short breaker behind the back window on the drivers side is compulsory;

-          A petrol cut-off handle near the drivers seat is compulsory;

-          It is not allowed to drink alcohol during a race day, till the end of the final;

-          The following items are compulsory: a window net on the drivers’ side – fire prove gloves – neck brace or Hans system or similar – fire proof underwear – fire proof balaclava.

-          When a car is definitely slower than the rest of the field, DUE TO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS, the black flag will be showed.

-          A radio connection with the starter marshal is compulsory. All the radios will be checked in the pitlane or during the warming up laps. If the radio from a driver is not working, he will have to start at ˝ lap.

14° START AND RACE PROCEDURE:

    Most of the time, there are several warming up laps; an exception can be made for extra long (70 or 80 laps) races

-          All starts are rolling; when all the cars are in position, the startcar leaves the track; start will be given in one of the next laps.

-          Normally, in Warneton, each meeting will have 2 heats of 30 laps plus a final over 40 laps.. Nevertheless, Camso can alter that number of laps, in function of the situation at the day (for example: number of cars, timetable etc.)

-          In case of a caution (yellow flag situation), the lapped drivers will be put at the back of the field, at the restart.

-          The national Belgian flag will be waved at half race.

-          The white flag or “the 1 lap panel” will be showed with one lap to go.

-          The leader of the championship start at the back of every race (the points list is made after each meeting).

-          The winner of the championship 2004 (Gary Ellis #95)) will start at the back of the field, for the first meeting.

-          The winner of a heat or a final start the next race at the penultimate position (just before the leader of the championship). For the first meeting (Eastern Sunday) the winner of the last final (Jean Vasseur #7) will have to start at that position

-          New drivers in the formula start in their first heat, at the back of the field (behind the leader of the championship). If Camso judge them fast enough, they can take, the second heat, their normal position.

-          The “not real” Camso V8 with a non-american body start at the back of the field.

-          For the startposition of all the other drivers, notice will be taken of the speed of the driver and his position in the championship, like it was in the previous years

-          The startgrid of the final on Eastern Monday will be in function of all the races of the 2 days (best in front)

-          Camso will  try to publish the start positions of each race, in the infield, so that each driver can take his position on the start grid, immediately after the warming up laps.

-          At a restart, the cars will be placed 2 by 2, in stead of in a single file. After a couple of restarts, an evaluation will be held, which of the 2 systems is better.

15° CHAMPIONSHIP:

-          Points are the same in the heats as in the final: 16 – 15 – 14 – 13 – 12 etc till 1 (we give 16 points as 16 is the maximum number we allow in one race). All the drivers which start, receive points.

-          The leader, half race, will receive 2 bonus points. The driver, which was the most laps in front, will also receive 2 bonus points; in case more than one driver was the most laps in front, each one will receive the 2 bonus points.

-          The points goes to the driver and not to the car.

-          During an organisation a driver may not be changed on a car; exception can be made in case that a driver is hurt in an accident, ill or if a driver thinks he is not able to compete on this level (for example a driver which rent a car). Only the race director can allow this change of driver.

-          By a penalisation for pushing, a jumped start or not respecting the white line, 5 points in the championship will go off.

-          3 Trophies are given to the first 3 in the final.

16° CONTROL OF THE CARS:

When a car is controlled, each other driver or mechanic of a Camso V8 driver may ask to assist at the control;

The scrutineering will be done by Roy Cook or by Camso. The procedure is as follow:

. Petrol can be controlled after or before each race. Camso has the possibility to change, just before the race, the petrol and fill up the tank with petrol delivered by Camso. Camso has the possibility to plumb the petrol tank;

. The tire shore number can be controlled before, during (if there is a yellow flag situation) and after the race;

. At each meeting a car can be completely controlled in the workshop. The follow items can be controlled: suspension, differential ratio, camshaft, carburettor and compression ratio. If the scrutineer judges it necessary, the head can be taken off (only after the final). The number of the car, which can be controlled, will be drawed from a hat before the first heat. If there is a 2 days meeting, the second day, the same car as the first day cannot be controlled, if the car has been visible the whole evening and night.

17° PENALTIES:

-          in case of a penalty for pushing:

at the restart the driver will have to start at the back of the field;

if a driver is too often involved in a “pushing incident”, he can be banned for one or more races or he can be put at ˝ lap for one or more races.

The penalty has not to be pronounced immediately after the race or on race day; it can be done after the vision of pictures or a videotape of the race.

-          in case of a penalty for a jumped start or not respecting the white line:

the driver will have to start the next race at the back of the field; if that occurs by one of the last 3 cars on the startgrid (leaders in the championship), they will be put at ˝ lap at the next race;

-          cheating with the engine, suspension, tires, petrol and differential gear is penalised with a ONE YEAR BAN for the driver AND the car.

18° MISCELLANOUS:

-          Radio connection between the driver and the crew is not allowed at Warneton.

-          Normally, we have 2 heats and a final on a raceday. On 8th of July and 2nd of September, there will be 3 heats and a final, weather permitting.

-          The laps under yellow flag conditions do not count, except during the extra long races (13 May: 75 laps final – 8 July: 60 laps final)

-          When we have an extra long race (75 laps and 60 laps), there will be 2 compulsory yellow flags to bring the field together. On September 2nd (Budweiser 200), there will be one compulsory yellow flag.

-          Camso keeps the right to refuse a driver to start in the Camso V8 series, if Camso judges that the driver does not have his place in the formula (for example: too slow, a past of non-fair play racing, a past of cheating).

-          The cars with a non USA body will have to start at the back of the field.

-          The “non-real” Camso V8 will have to start at the back of the field at their first race. For the next race, Camso can place them on a “normal” place on the startgrid in function of the speed of the car and the driver. If a “non real” Camso V8 is too fast for the other cars, Camso can decide to add weight or Camso can decide that the driver must use the “real” Camso V8 engine.

-          The “non real” Camso V8 cars will be allowed to race in 2008, together with the “real” Camso V8, IF they start, in 2007, at minimum 6 meetings.

-          The drivers, which hire a car and which race for the first time with the Camso V8, will have to start at the back of the field for their first race. For the next races, Camso can place them on their “normal” place on the startgrid if Camso judges that they are fast enough and that they are not a danger for the other drivers.
